Beginners Guide on How to Get Organic Twitter Followers

how to get organic Twitter followers

Twitter was designed with the purpose to share your thoughts with anyone in the world, from your friends and neighbors to industry leaders and A-list celebrities. Who knows where it’s heading with the recent Elon Musk takeover. One thing is for certain: Twitter is a powerful social media tool that marketers and small businesses should adopt in order to grow their brand awareness and marketing goals.

In this post, we will discuss tips, tricks, and tactics that beginners should know for organically growing their Twitter accounts.

How to Optimize Your Twitter Profile

If you want to use your Twitter account effectively, you need to first update your profile information with all of the available features.

Upload a JPG, PNG or GIF file for your profile picture and header image that each define your brand. Recommended dimensions are 400×400 pixels and 1500×500 pixels, respectively.

There are no limits to how many times you change your Twitter handle, as long as it’s more than 4 characters in length but a maximum of 15 characters. Your display name can also be up to 50 characters long.

The challenge – but also the area where you can let your brand shine – is writing a bio that’s capped off at 160 characters. Be personable and add flair with humor, hashtags, and emojis. Include keywords that pertain to your products, services, or industry.

Lastly, you can add your location and a link to your website or campaign landing page. Not only does this show followers that you’re local, but it gives them an opportunity to learn more about your brand by visiting your site.

5 Twitter Tactics to Increase Followers, Impressions & Engagement

Schedule Tweets Based on Peak Activity Times

The first thing that you need to do is schedule your tweets. You could post on any day of the week at any time of the day, but you should create a schedule that follows your audience’s peak activity times.

Figure out when your audience is most actively online is key to increasing more engagement, impressions, followers, and retweets. This could be in the morning when people are looking at their devices before starting work, or in the evening when they’re winding down for the day. Good luck trying to build your brand while everyone’s asleep though.

Every account has a different timetable on when to schedule out tweets. You need to dive into your Twitter analytics and find what days and hours your users are engaging with you the most. Experimentation is highly recommended until you have a stronger understanding of your audience’s behaviors. Then stick to a routine on when to post throughout the week.

Consistently Post Engaging Content

This might not be news to you, but content matters a lot. Undoubtedly, whatever you post, whether text or visual, should be tailored to your target audience.

Company announcements, sales events, industry articles, blogs, videos, polls, GIFs, and even retweets are some creative tactics that you should incorporate in your Twitter content marketing strategy. Not every idea is going to be worthwhile to your brand or industry, so test and determine what type of posts provide the most long-term value.

Incorporate the Right Hashtags

Using hashtags is an effective growth tactic that can boost your Twitter engagement and following. Hashtags are more powerful on Twitter because of the nature of the platform. There are trending hashtags that give a better idea of what’s going on in the world that the majority of people care about.

The discover page lists trending hashtags, words, and phrases. This section further helps you find what’s trending, why it’s trending, and posts using the content in question.

Hashtags shouldn’t be overused though as using too many can confuse Twitter’s algorithm. Using 1-5 relevant hashtags per post can help disperse your content to the appropriate audience.

Interact with Your Audience

Some brands forget their audience after tweeting, which is the biggest hurdle in growing your Twitter account. It’s great to see likes, replies, retweet, and mentions, but it’s more powerful to actively engage with your audience.

Genuinely answer questions and messages in a timely manner, reply to comments and mentions with helpful information and playful GIFs, and retweet content from your followers to show them that they are just as valued.

Subscribe to Twitter Blue

Twitter Blue is a subscription service that adds a blue checkmark to your profile and allows you to experience all their new premium features. For $7.99 a month, you can unsend tweets, disable ads while reading articles, and test early access features via Twitter Blue Labs.

In the past, Twitter used the blue checkmark to prove someone was an active, notable, and authentic account. With new leadership at Twitter comes changes to the blue checkmark.

The long sought after checkmark can now mean two different things: either that an account was verified under the previous verification criteria (active, notable, and authentic), or that the account has an active subscription to Twitter’s new Twitter Blue subscription service. These new changes were made available on November 9, 2022.

Update: The recent changes to Twitter Blue didn’t go as planned. Thousands of parody accounts were created, with many blue verified accounts able to post content that the world could think came from major businesses. Some accounts were funny while others created tension and curiosity for many customers, followers, and fanbases. A lesson learned for Musk and company, as he quickly ended the service in hopes of fine tuning it for the better.

Musk recently stated that the new roll out of the subscription would be November 29, 2022.

Should I Buy Twitter Followers?

You can easily buy Twitter followers, and there are websites and service providers that can help you gain thousands of followers without any hassle. But “is it worth it?” is the question.

The straightforward answer is no, you should not buy Twitter followers because they are most likely bots or fake accounts. These bots cannot engage, contribute, or complete a purchase, so they’re useless. Besides increasing your follower count, they bring in zero value.

Secondly, Twitter is known to delete bot accounts regularly. Your account may even get banned or deleted since buying followers goes against their terms of service. You can check to see if you have any fake followers with this Twitter Follower Analysis tool.
